The Wall Street Journal is just reporting on their site, that negotiators for the Iraqi government and the US have come to a draft agreement on troop withdrawals.
According to the article, the deal is part of a larger security deal. I'm sure we're going to have some sort of base there. It should be noted that final approval will be given by both President Bush and President al-Maliki. And, as the article points out, all the smaller details haven't been ironed out. But we do know this, the Iraqis want us out, and 2011 looks to be it.
BAGHDAD -- U.S. and Iraqi negotiators reached agreement on a security deal that calls for American military forces to leave Iraq's cities by next summer as a prelude to a full withdrawal of combat troops from the country, according to senior American officials. The draft agreement sets 2011 as the date by which U.S. combat troops will leave Iraq, according to Iraqi Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Haj Humood and other people familiar with the matter.
Teams of American and Iraqi negotiators spent months haggling over the deal, which represents a remarkable turnaround from just a few months ago, when talk of timetables and deadlines was routinely dismissed by the Bush administration and other Republicans in Washington.
Senior officials in Washington said the talks have concluded. The deal will be presented to the Bush administration and the government of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki for formal approval or rejection.

Now of course I'm not getting my hopes up. But this is the first time, in a long time, that some sort of resolution to this damn invasion is happening. Who knows, perhaps at the last minute something will happen and once again our armed forces have no time table to leave. But, perhaps, we've finally found some sort of exit.
I'll be honest, I don't like the security deal put out so far by this government. What I don't want is a withdrawal in name only. You know, having "military advisers" there. Sorry, the skeptic in me coming out, but still hoping that some deal is made and we get the hell out!
